Downers Grove, IL 60515 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM The LEAP Preschool Model has at its core the belief that children with autism can be educated in inclusive classrooms with the appropriate supports and services. This model can be implemented in classrooms using a variety of curricular models including Creative Curriculum, High Scope and others. Learning activities for students are chosen based on the needs, interests and developmental levels of individual children in the classroom. Peer mediated interventions are provided based on the training of comprehensive social skills training for typically developing children so they can facilitate the social and communicative behaviors of the peers with autism and other developmental disabilities with in the classroom routines. The LEAP model uses a variety of science based approaches, including peer mediated interventions, errorless learning, time delay, incidental teaching, pivotal response training, picture exchange communication systems when appropriate and positive behavior support. Join us for an overview of how peer supports and evidence based strategies can be used to provide rich learning opportunities in the least restrictive environment. This workshop is being held in collaboration with LADSE.
