This module developed by Early CHOICES reviews the Federal Policy Statement on Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Programs that was updated and re-issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Education on November 23, 2023.

This module is in two sections. The objectives for these modules are:

  • Understand the key federal policies and guidance related to the inclusion of children with disabilities in early childhood programs.
  • Explain what inclusion is and the importance of including children with disabilities in early childhood programs.
  • Identify and develop strategies to implement inclusive programming that aligns with federal guidance and recommendations.
  • Reflect on current inclusion practices to identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify resources and supports to enhance inclusive practices.

The companion Reflection Guide can be used to reflect on current inclusive practices, consider ways to further advance inclusion, and explore helpful resources for you and your program or community.  Links to all the resources mentioned in the modules are also in the reflection guide.

If you would like 1.0 hour of  ISBE PEL or Gateways credit you must complete the quiz with 80% accuracy and demographic information so we can issue credit.  We will issue credit on the 15th of each month so it may take a few weeks before you receive the credit.
